CMS Capabilities

What does the CMS do well?

  • Manages static HTML web content via the UCSD campus-wide templates.
  • Allows content owners with little or no background in web technologies to create, edit, and publish web pages.
  • Allows content owners to upload images to their website and link to downloadable files.
  • Allows website managers to set rules so certain content owners can only publish to a "staging" environment while others can publish to "production".

What the CMS is not designed to do:

  • The CMS is not a web application development platform.
  • The CMS does not have a form-building component (it clan link to forms built in other technologies).
  • The CMS is not a wiki or blog platform.
  • The CMS is not an event calendaring application or video platform.  It can embed calendars and videos hosted on other systems.
